Single family home in Lewisburg WV.
Building the suspended glulam staircase was an interesting design challenge that we think turned out really well. The solid glulam stringer and treads add a rich element to the great room.
This home was built with slab on grade design and in floor hydronic radiant heat. Supplemental passive solar heating was achieved by orienting the house due south and adding extra glazing to the south wall. Overhangs were designed to prevent overheating in the summertime. An insulated board form concrete wall is exposed to the interior along the northern wall of the great room and downstairs shower, providing thermal mass and visual interest to the rooms.
